Changing UV ink may look simple, but it can create several problems if the new ink does not match the printer.
Two common problems are no ink output and incorrect colors.
The New Ink May Not Match the Printhead
UV ink is usually tested for specific printer and printhead combinations.
If you install a different ink without checking compatibility, its viscosity, flow, or other properties may not match the Printer Printhead.
This can cause unstable ink flow or nozzle clogging.
In more serious cases, the printer may stop producing one or more colors.
That is why changing ink only because another brand is cheaper can create more maintenance problems than expected.
The Original ICC Profile May No Longer Match
The factory ink is normally used together with specific color management settings.
This often includes an ICC profile.
The ICC profile is created to match the color characteristics of that ink.
When you replace the original UV ink with a different formula, the color response can change.
The old ICC profile may no longer be accurate.
You may see color shifts, incorrect skin tones, weak colors, or prints that do not match the file on your screen.
Do Not Change Ink Without a Clear Reason
A useful Printer tip is to keep using a tested ink system if the printer is already running well.
For inexperienced users, saving a small amount on ink may not be worth the risk.
If problems start after an ink change, include the new ink in your Printer Troubleshooting process.
Ink compatibility and color profiles should both be checked.
