A UV printer carriage should move smoothly across the rail.
If the carriage starts shaking or jerking, the printed image may shift between passes. Lines may no longer match, and parts of the design can appear doubled or out of position.
For example, a logo may look correct on the left side, but the letters begin to shift as the carriage moves across the print area.
This problem is usually related to the encoder strip, carriage belt, or drag chain.
Check the Encoder Strip
The encoder strip helps the printer track the exact carriage position.
If it is dirty or damaged, the carriage may receive the wrong position signal.
Check it for:
- Ink mist
- Dust
- Scratches
- Physical damage
Clean it carefully using the method recommended by the printer manufacturer. Replace it if it is badly damaged.
Check the Carriage Belt
A loose, worn, or broken belt can make the carriage shake or move unevenly.
Inspect the belt for cracks, broken teeth, or poor tension.
If your machine uses a 465 belt and the belt is damaged, replace it with the correct compatible part.
Check the Drag Chain
Debris can get stuck inside the drag-chain track.
This may pull against the carriage and cause sudden shaking during printing.
Clean the track and make sure the drag chain can move freely across the full carriage path.
Quick Troubleshooting Tip
A simple Printer Troubleshooting check is to watch the carriage while running a small test print.
If the carriage shakes at the same position every time, inspect the encoder strip, belt, and drag chain around that area.
Fix the mechanical movement before changing print settings. Software calibration cannot correct a carriage that is physically shaking or slipping.
